4歳からクラシックヴァイオリンを始める。東京藝術大学在学中、ポーランドのジャズシーンに衝撃を受けジャズヴァイオリンに転向。
2024年、ポーランドで行われた第6回Zbigniew Seifert国際ジャズコンペティションでアジア人初の3位入賞を果す。

クラシックではこれまでに国内外多数のコンクールに入賞。平成25年相模原市文化・スポーツ表彰受賞。

大学在学中より作曲やアレンジなどの活動を行うようになる。2013年に自らが作編曲、演奏を行うレーベル『みみみレコーズ』を立ち上げ、2017年4月に初のCD「みんなのおんがく」をリリース。ラジオや雑誌など各方面から好評を博す。卒業後は映画劇伴音楽からメジャーシーンのポップスアレンジまで手がける。

現在は東京を拠点に精力的にジャズやインプロヴィゼーションを中心としたライブを行なっているほか、King Gnu、Mrs. GREEN APPLE、Omoinotake、Vaundy、yama、秋山黄色、石崎ひゅーい、加藤ミリヤ、崎山蒼志、吉田美奈子ほか多数アーティストのライブサポートやスタジオレコーディングに携わる。2023年公開の映画『ライフ・イズ・クライミング！』劇中の長尺の完全即興演奏は話題となった。

Born in Tokyo in 1994, he started playing violin at the age of four.
He has won many national and international prizes in classical music competitions.
He was inspired by the Polish jazz scene and switched to jazz violin while attending Tokyo University of the Arts. In 2024, he became the first Asian person to achieve third place at the 6th Zbigniew Seifert International Jazz Competition in Poland.

Tomohiro started composing as a student. In 2015, he founded his own record label, Mi Mi Mi Records, on which he released a series of albums with homemade DIY packaging/artwork.
He graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2017. Since then, he has worked on everything from film music to pop arrangements for major scenes.

Tomohiro is the co-founder of the LESS IS MORE String Quartet. Their unique and original music, which blends classical music and jazz, has attracted a great deal of attention in Japan and abroad.

Tomohiro, son of jazz pianist Akira Ishii, has been exploring the possibilities of improvisation with the violin. In recent years, he has collaborated with improvisers and jazz musicians such as Fumio Yasuda and Joachim Badenhorst.
